Job Description:
We are seeking an accomplished Scientific Services Director to
lead our Laboratory Services team on a temporary 6-month
assignment. In this senior leadership position, you will shape the
strategic direction, drive operational excellence, and foster
innovation across our laboratory services. With oversight of
facilities supporting approximately 1,000 scientists, you'll govern
a significant delivery organization of outsourced staff on-site.
This pivotal role requires adept management of laboratory
infrastructure, processes, and services to support Scientific
services cutting-edge research and development objectives. As a key
member of the Scientific services Leadership Team, you'll
contribute to establishing a world-class Facilities Management

ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement a forward-thinking strategy for
laboratory services and aligned with AstraZeneca's R&D and
innovation goals.
- Ensure lab services meet business objectives, scientific
priorities, and compliance standards.
- Champion the integration of new technologies to elevate lab
efficiency, scalability, and sustainability.
- Enhance FM performance by collaborating with the site
Management Team and stakeholders in the science
community.Operational Excellence:
- Ensure the meticulous planning, execution, and improvement of
lab services for timely and efficient delivery, upholding top
quality standards.
- Maintain laboratory compliance with regulatory, safety, and
environmental standards.Team Leadership and Development:
- Build, inspire, and mentor a high-performing lab services team
within AstraZeneca and its supplier ecosystem.
- Cultivate a collaborative, innovative, and accountable work
culture.
- Promote talent development to elevate team members' technical
and leadership skills.Stakeholder Engagement:
- Partner with cross-functional teams-Quality Assurance,
Facilities, IT-to align lab services with internal needs.
- Serve as the main point of contact for lab-related services,
effectively addressing collaborator concerns.
- Collaborate with external partners to streamline lab operations
and implement advanced solutions.Financial and Resource Management:
- Develop and supervise the lab services budget, optimizing costs
without compromising quality or safety.
- Allocate and apply resources efficiently to improve efficiency
across laboratory facilities.
- Identify and secure funding for new initiatives, improvements,
or expansions in lab capabilities.Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure all lab operations conform to regulatory, safety, and
ethical standards including GxP, ISO, and local regulations.
- Implement risk mitigation strategies for potential operational
challenges.
- Conduct audits and reviews to maintain compliance and identify
areas for improvement.Essential Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years experience in laboratory operations,
scientific services, or a related area, preferably within
pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, or life sciences.
- University Degree.
- Proven ability to lead large, multidisciplinary teams in
sophisticated lab environments.
- Expertise in laboratory technologies, automation, and digital
tools management.
- Strong background in regulatory compliance and quality
